INTRODUCTION

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND NOTE HOW THEY APPLY TO YOUR PARTICULAR POOL AND EQUIPMENT.

Welcome to the Eco-Oxidizer Pro.

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro is designed to work alongside your Bionizer Fresh Pool System to help maintain clear, fresh pool water with minimal chemical use. Using specially coated titanium electrodes, the system continuously oxidises contaminants whenever your pool pump and filtration system are operating.

By generating hydroxy radicals and other oxidizing compounds, the Eco-Oxidizer Pro helps reduce the need for traditional pool shocking and excessive chemical dosing while supporting a pleasant swimming environment and simplified pool maintenance.

You will enjoy a sparkling clear healthy pool created by the Bionizer hybrid pool system. The combination of low ions and low chlorine is virtually chlorine free and powerfully effective at controlling and maintaining the ideal pool.

Our factory settings deliver you an ideal mix of low ions and ultra-low chlorine, delivering a delightful pool experience in every way.

To achieve optimum performance, it is important that your pool water remains correctly balanced.

This manual will guide you through the installation, operation and care of your Eco-Oxidizer Pro to ensure years of reliable performance and enjoyment.

ECO-OXIDIZER PRO CONTROL PANEL

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro is very easy to use. All set-up functions are accessed via the four touch pad buttons on the Control Panel. Install the Eco-Oxidizer Pro as per this instruction manual. Ensure that the pool pump is running and circulating water through the Eco-Oxidizer cell chamber. When the Eco-Oxidizer Pro is powered up, you will be able to check and adjust its settings.

Setting the Output Level

• Press ⚙️ until “Output” is flashing.

• Press ➕ and ➖ to set the Output from 25% to 100%.

• The new setting will automatically be saved after 10 seconds, or if ⚙️ is pressed.

When using Eco-Oxidizer Pro with a Bionizer, we recommend that you start at a low level if you prefer a Chlorine-free experience. At low outputs, the amount of Chlorine in the water will be virtually undetectable. The unit will still be generating oxidizing compounds such as hydroxy radicals that will oxidize the pool water to keep it sparkling clear.

The Output will display as 0% when the Cycle Time is complete for the day and there is still water flow.

Setting the Cycle Time

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro will oxidize for the Cycle Time per 24 hour period whenever it detects water flow. For example, if there are two 4- hour pump cycles per day and set for 6 hours Cycle Time, it will oxidize for the first 4 hour cycle, 2 of the second 4 hours, and then switch to standby. You to therefore vary pump times without affecting the oxidizing function.

• Press ⚙️ until “Cl time” is flashing.

• Press ➕ and ➖ to set the Cycle Time from 1 to 24 hours. • The new setting will automatically be saved after 10 seconds, or if ⚙️ is pressed.

A low Output level and long Cycle Time will generally keep your pool clear and fresh with zero or very low Chlorine level. For a pool with high bather load, a high Output level with shorter Cycle Time can provide a Chlorine boost at the start of every pump cycle if needed.

Setting the Reverse Polarity Time

The self cleaning function of the Eco-Oxidizer Pro reverse the voltage polarity of the oxidizing cells periodically to prevent build-up of calcium and other deposits.

• Press ⚙️ until “Reverse” is flashing.

• Press ➕ and ➖ to set the Reverse Polarity Time from 2 to 8 hours.

• The new setting will automatically be saved after 10 seconds, or if ⚙️ is pressed.

The Reverse Polarity Time should be set to 4 hours for Calcium Hardness levels up to 300ppM. If Calcium Hardness is above 300ppM, change this to 2 hours.

Setting the Pool Volume

Setting the Pool Volume correctly helps Eco-Oxidizer Pro to correctly calculate the amount of salt required.

• Press ⚙️ until “Volume” is flashing.

• Press ➕ and ➖ to set the Pool Volume from 1 to 200m³ (1m³ = 1,000 Litres)

• The new setting will automatically be saved after 10 seconds, or if ⚙️ is pressed.

Locking the Touch Pad

The Touch Pad can be locked to prevent settings being changed inadvertently

• To lock the Touch Pad, press and hold the ➕ and ⚙️ buttons for 3 seconds, until the lock symbol is displayed.

• To unlock the Touch Pad, press and hold the ➕ and ⚙️ buttons for 3 seconds, until the lock symbol is disappears.

Displaying Pool Salinity Level

• When the Eco-Oxidizer Pro is in normal operation (i.e. not in one of the settings screens), press ➕ to display the approximate salinity.

• Salinity is displayed in g/L (grams/Litre). 1g/L = 1000 ppM.

• The unit will revert to the normal display screen after 10 seconds.

• The displayed reading is approximate and depends on the condition and cleanliness of the oxidizing cell. Using a TDS meter will be more accurate when calculating the amount of salt that may need to be added.

• When Eco-Oxidizer Pro determines that there is only 30% of life remaining in the oxidizing cell, it will default to a fixed salinity display, as it will not be calculable with a worn cell.

Displaying Pool Temperature

• When the Eco-Oxidizer Pro is in normal operation (i.e. not in one of the settings screens), press ➖ to display the pool temperature, in ºC

• The unit will revert to the normal display screen after 10 seconds.

CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

IMPORTANT:
It is important to follow basic safety precautions when installing and using this electrical equipment, including the following:
Ensure you read and follow all instructions.
WARNING – Do not allow children to use this product unless they are closely supervised at all times. This is to prevent accidental injury.
Keep all cables visible and do not bury them. Also, position them so that they do not get damaged by lawn mowers, hedge trimmers and other equipment.
WARNING – To prevent electrical shock, replace damaged cords immediately.
Read these instructions and keep the instruction manual in a safe place.

CAUTION:
Your warranty could become invalid should you fail to observe the following :
The Eco-Oxidizer Pro must be installed and operated as specified.
The life of the unit will be extended (as with most other pool equipment) if it is placed indoors or in an enclosed structure.

SELF-CLEANING FUNCTION

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro reverses the +/- polarity periodically according to the Reverse Polarity time described on page 6.
The operating time on the current polarity is accumulated regardless of when the system detects water flow. For example, if there are two pump cycles per day of 3 hours each, and the Reverse Polarity time is set to 4 hours, the Eco- Oxidizer Pro will operate on one polarity for the entire 3 hours of the first pump cycle and 1 hour of the second pump cycle. At this time, the unit will switch to the opposite polarity.
The equal time on each polarity is what reduces the amount of calcium that can build up on the plates, and actively removes that calcium when the polarity is reversed. The oxidizing cell will still need to be cleaned from time to time (page 18), but the self-cleaning function will maximise the time period between when this is required.
For this reason, it is essential that the Eco-Oxidizer Pro is connected into a power outlet that provides constant power to the unit. The amount of accumulated time on each polarity is reset to zero whenever power is switched off. In that case, the unit is therefore likely to have uneven time for each polarity. The result is rapid calcium build-up and frequent cell cleaning.
4 hours is the recommended reverse polarity time for most pools. Change to 2 hours only for Calcium Hardness levels around 300ppM or higher.
Do not set the reverse polarity time to 2 hours for when Calcium Hardness is below 250 ppM, because this could reduce the lifespan of the cell.

ECO-OXIDIZER PRO INSTALLATION

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro can be installed onto a new pool or an existing pool with minimal pool preparation. Ensure that the pool is clean and correctly balanced.
Installing your Eco-Oxidizer Pro takes around 30 minutes.
Alternatively engage a competent person to do the job.
If installing it yourself you will need:
PVC pressure glue and primer.
A fine tooth saw.
Philips Screwdriver
For masonry walls: hammer drill with 6mm or 1/4″ masonry bit.
Sandpaper or small file.

INSTALLING THE POWER SUPPLY

The weather resistant power supply that is included with your Eco-Oxidizer Pro can be mounted in any orientation that is convenient.
Mount the power supply in a position that allows the mains power lead to reach a 240V AC power outlet without straining.
The DC power output cable must also be able to reach the Eco-Oxidizer Pro unit without straining.
Use the supplied self-tapping screws and masonry wall anchors as needed.
In order for the Eco-Oxidizer Pro to correctly log the number of hours of operation for each cell polarity, it must be powered from a power outlet with constant 24 hour power.
If the Eco-Oxidizer Pro is powered on and off at the same time as the pool pump, this will increase the frequency that the cell requires cleaning (page 18) and may shorten total cell life.

INSTALLING THE ECO-OXIDIZER PRO

Locate a section of pipe where the Eco-Oxidizer Pro can easily fit. The unit must be fitted on the pipe that sends water back to the pool after it has been filtered (the “Return Line”).
The unit must be fitted horizontally to ensure that its flow switch operates correctly.
The diagram below illustrates the space that the Eco-Oxidizer Pro will occupy once it has been installed. Be sure that this space is available in your chosen installation position.
If you are also installing a Bionizer and/or pHBOSS the fittings MUST be installed in this order :
1. pH BOSS Probe and Injection Tee
2. Eco-Oxidizer Pro Unit
3. Bionizer Ionizing Pod
HINT: Even if you are not installing a pH BOSS now, you may want to leave a space for the pH BOSS Tee-Piece Fitting. This requires 20cm of HORIZONTAL pipe BEFORE the Eco- Oxidizer Pro unit.

INSTALLING THE ECO-OXIDIZER PRO
ALWAYS USE PVC PRIMER ON BOTH SURFACES BEFORE GLUEING ANY PVC PARTS.

1.
50mm (2") Pipe: Cut out a 190mm (7 ¹⁄") section of pipe sufficient for the Eco-Oxidizer Pro cell housing and barrel unions.

40mm (1½") Pipe: Cut out a 200mm (7 ⁷⁄") section of pipe sufficient for the Eco-Oxidizer Pro cell housing, barrel unions PLUS reducing bushes.

Slide the barrel union nuts onto the pipe. Ensure that the threads are facing the correct way, so that the nuts can be screwed onto the cell housing at the last stage of installation.

3.
Glue the Eco-Oxidizer Pro barrel union halves onto the pipe. For 40mm (1.5") pipe, glue 50x40mm bushes into the unions first.

Do not lose the O-rings from the unions, and ensure that they are in place before fitting the Eco-Oxidizer Pro in place.

Do not use any lubricant on the o-rings. Silicone and petroleum based lubricants can break down the plastic of the cell housing.

4.
Fit the Eco-Oxidizer Pro into place and secure the barrel union nuts. Hand tighten only - do not use a tool.

Ensure that the arrows on the cell housing are pointing in the direction of the water flow. The flow switch must be on the water inlet side of the housing.

POWER & PLUMBING CONNECTIONS

STANDALONE SYSTEM (NO SHARED HEATING PROVISIONS)

INTEGRATED SYSTEM (SHARED HEATING PROVISIONS)

CONTROL PANEL ORIENTATION

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro’s Control panel can be swivelled in 90º increments to make the display and touch pad face in the best orientation for your installation.
Switch off power to the Eco-Oxidizer Pro and disconnect the power cable.
Partially unscrew the grey retaining ring, to a point where the Control Panel section can be lifted a and spun around.

3. Turn the Control Panel section clockwise or anti-clockwise as required. There are notches at 90º intervals, and you MUST align the Control Panel with one of these notches and feel the Control Panel section seat into the notch.
DO NOT TURN THE CONTROL PANEL MORE THAN 180º.

4. Re-tighten the grey retaining ring to a firm hand tightness. DO NOT USE A TOOL.

INITIAL START-UP OPERATION

PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION BEFORE OPERATING YOUR ECO-OXIDIZER PRO.

BEFORE OPERATING THE ECO-OXIDIZER PRO:
Balance the Pool according to the Snap Pool Balance chaRt on the inside rear cover of this manual. Feel free to take that chart to your pool shop if you prefer them to test your water.
It is not advised to use skimmer basket type clarifying cubes that treat Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Phosphates when operating the Eco-Oxidizer Pro.
Backwash your filter if it is a sand filter, or wash your filter if it is a cartridge type filter. Refer to your filter’s handbook.

NORMAL OPERATION

Switch the Eco-Oxidizer Pro to Standby for 2 days after adding flocculents, clarifiers, waterline scum detergents and some phosphate removers. See page 5.
There is no need to switch the unit to Standby phosphate removers whose active ingredient is Lanthanum Chloride, including Bionizer PFP powder.
If the pool water becomes cloudy at any time we suggest testing the various pool balance levels and re-balancing the pool water according to the Pool Balance information in the Snap Balance Chart (page 23). Feel free to take that chart to your pool shop if you prefer them to test your water.
Check the pressure gauge attached to your filter regularly. If the pressure is more than 50kPa above the clean running pressure, then the filter must be cleaned. Sand filters must be backwashed, and cartridge filters must be disassembled, washed with water, and reassembled. Refer to your filter’s handbook.
To depend on the Eco-Oxidizer Pro to remove the cloudiness and restore clarity before testing the water balance levels is asking the Oxidizing unit to fix a problem that only has one solution. Correct water balance and efficient filtering with a clean filter will restore clarity… if this does not clarify the pool water then it is most likely requiring more oxidation.
To put it more simply… if the filter is operating normally, with no heavy bather load upsetting the water clarity, then any cloudy or hazy appearance in the water is most likely due to the pool water being unbalanced.
If correct pool balance has been confirmed and your Bionizer equipment is running correctly, you can increase the Output level and/or Cycle Time to provide more Oxidizing power and a low level of Chlorine. See page 5. This will then help oxidize the compounds that are causing the cloudiness.

MAINTENANCE

A LITTLE MAINTENANCE WILL HELP YOU GET THE MOST FROM YOUR ECO-OXIDIZER PRO

The Eco-Oxidizer Pro features a self-cleaning system for the electrodes. However, periodic cleaning in cell cleaning solution may still be required, especially when used in marble sheen pools with higher calcium hardness levels than usual.
Cleaning is recommended every 12 months, or earlier if excessive white calcium build-up can be seen on the electrode surfaces.

CLEANING PROCEDURE

Always wear gloves, eye protection and protective clothing when handling acid.
Never rub the Titanium surface or use any abrasive paper or cleaning product.
Switch power to the Pool Pump and Eco-Oxidizer Pro off, and disconnect the power cable.
Remove the Eco-Oxidizer Pro from the pipeline (reverse of installation procedure on page 11)
Fit the sealing disk and spare union nut to the water outlet side of the cell. This is the opposite side opposite to the flow switch.
Place the Eco-Oxidizer Pro onto a solid flat surface, sealed side down. You will need to lean the control panel against a vertical surface to stop it tipping over.
Pour undiluted chlorinator cell cleaning solution into the cell, to a level that covers the titanium plates. If cell cleaning solution is not available, you may use hydrochloric acid, diluted 1:10 with fresh water. Refer to the Acid Safety and Dilution pages of the pH BOSS handbook before attempting this.
Allow the cell to soak in the cleaning solution for 10 minutes, or until the cell appears clean. A clean cell has a dull black appearance.
Pour the cell cleaning solution into a sink while the cold water tap is running. Run the tap for another 20 seconds or more afterwards. Rinse the cell well.
Re-install Eco-Oxidizer Pro, as per the details on page 11. Reconnect the power to the pool pump and Eco-Oxidizer Pro.
We recommend to run the pool pump for at least 10 minutes after cleaning, to ensure that all of the cleaning solution and any loose deposits have been washed off the cell plates.

REPLACING THE OXIDIZING CELL

While replacing the Oxidizing Cell, the Eco- Oxidizer Pro’s circuit board will uncovered. It is therefore very important that the Oxidizing Cell replacement is done under cover, away from rain, water hoses, or any body of water such as the pool itself.

Switch power to the Pool Pump and Eco- Oxidizer Pro off, and disconnect the power cable.
Remove the Eco-Oxidizer Pro from the pipeline (reverse of installation procedure on page 11). Tip out as much of the water inside the cell housing as practical. Dry the unit off well.
Take the Eco-Oxidizer Pro to an under cover area, preferably a workbench or table. Unscrew the grey retaining ring until it comes loose from the unit. Pull the control panel and oxidizing cell out of its housing.

4. Pull the Control Panel section away from the Oxidizing Cell section. Take care, as there are several connecting cables joining the two sections.

5. Locate and disconnect the wire connections shown in the photo below. Grip the plastic connectors, not on the wires

6. Connect the wires to the replacement Oxidizing Cell. Be sure to seat all of the connections firmly.
7. Re-fit the Control Panel section onto the new Oxidizing Cell section. Ensure that the translucent silicon gasket is seated correctly.

8. Fit the Control Panel and Oxidizing Cell sections into the housing. Ensure that the Flow Switch is on the Inlet side of the housing.

9. Re-install Eco-Oxidizer Pro, as per the details on page 11. Reconnect the power to the pool pump and Eco-Oxidizer Pro.

No / Low Water Flow.
Oxidizing stops and units beeps. Normal operation resumes when flow is restored.
When using a multi-speed pump, increase its speed. Ideal flow rate ranges are:

Ensure that all valves are open and filter multiport valve is in normal filtration position.
Faulty flow switch or flow switch connection. See page 19 for details on replacing the Oxidizing Cell or return for repair.

E5 + ⏻ flashes yellow

Low Salinity Warning. Oxidizing will continue, but unit must be set to lower setting.
The Low Salinity Warning level for each Output level setting is:
100% Output : <1200 ppM TDS
75% Output : <800 ppM TDS
50% Output : <500 ppM TDS
25% Output : <200 ppM TDS
Check Salinity level and increase to the 2000 to 3500 ppM range if needed as soon as possible to prevent damage to the Oxidizing cell plates.
If Salinity is in correct range, then clean the Oxidizing cell, as per page 18.
If the Oxidizing cell has been cleaned, then it will need to be replaced. Order a replacement cell and fit as per the information on page 19.
NOTE: When the cell life drops to below 30% remaining, the low salt alarm is disabled, since low readings may be due to cell wear, not low salt. Check Salinity level monthly.

EA + ⏻ flashes red + beeper sounds

Oxdising Cell Fault. Oxidizing function is disabled.
Oxidizing cell is not totally full of water. Check pump flow rate and any valves, to ensure flow rate is high enough to completely fill the cell.
Salinity level is below 250ppM, which can be due to filling a pool with fresh water and not yet having added salt. Add sufficient salt for at least 2000ppM Salinity.
If the Oxidizing cell has been replaced, there may be a connection issue. Double check all steps of the Oxidizing cell replacement procedure.
The cell has exceeded its maximum life. Replace the Oxidizing Cell as per the information on page 19.

EL + ⏻ flashes yellow

Low Water Temperature (below 10ºC). Oxidizing continues, this is just a warning of low temperature.
If the temperature will be below 10ºC for extended periods (i.e. not just an overnight minimum), set the Eco-Oxidizer Pro to its lowest setting or consider switching it off entirely.
If the low temperature reading is an error, it is likely that the temperature sensor is faulty. Replace the Oxidizing Cell as per page 19 or return the unit for repair.

EH

High Water Temperature (above 45ºC) Oxidizing stops.
Pool water temperature above 40ºC are not permitted by law, so this must be rectified immediately. Oxidizing will resume as soon as the water temperature drops below 45ºC again.
If the high temperature reading is an error, it is likely that the temperature sensor is faulty. Replace the Oxidizing Cell as per page 19 or return the unit for repair.

Faulty Temperature Sensor Oxidizing function is disabled, warning beeper sounds.
Check that the temperature sensor is connected correctly. The temperature sensor is the two-way header highlighted in the Oxidizing Cell replacement instructions on page 20.
If the temperature sensor is connected correctly, it is likely that the temperature sensor is faulty. Replace the Oxidizing Cell as per page 19 or return the unit for repair.
