Is the water chlorine-free?
Technically no, but our system generates less than 0.5ppm chlorine, this mean it has less chlorine that your tap water!
The Eco-Oxidizer produces a small trace of chlorine as a natural by-product of the oxidation process. This is 90% below the level in a traditional chlorine or salt pool, and it’s not what’s sanitising your water, that’s the job of the copper and silver ionisation. Most swimmers can’t detect it, and it doesn’t cause the smell, red eyes or dry skin associated with chlorine pools.
In rare situations (heavy rain, poor circulation, or stubborn algae), an additional one-off chlorine boost may still be recommended.

Is a freshwater pool safe?
Yes. Copper and silver ionisation is a proven method used in pools, resorts and health facilities worldwide to control bacteria and algae.
Does a freshwater pool need chemicals?
Only small amounts for balancing such as; acid for pH, phosphat remove when high-phosphates after heavy rain or a water polish when pollen in the water cannot be collected by your filter. Daily chlorine dosing is not required.
Is freshwater the same as a salt pool?
No. Salt pools generate chlorine from salt. Freshwater pools use mineral ionisation and contain no added salt.
Can I swim with my eyes open
Most swimmers find freshwater pools far more comfortable because there are no chloramines that cause irritation.
Can copper stain my pool?
Not with proper operation. As long as you keep water balanced and check levels regularly, staining isn’t an issue.

How often do I need to test the water?
Yes. You still test pH and copper weekly with your at home testing kits to ensure your water is balanced and prevent any concerns. If you add the pH Boss, pH is controlled automatically, and that makes everything easier.
We also recommend testing total alkalinity, calcium hardness and phosphates monthly with your local pool shop.
Can algae grow in a freshwater pool?
The copper ions actively prevent algae growth, this paired with the pH BOSS automatic pH controller keeps algae away. If the pool is neglected or water balance is poor, algae can occur, just like any pool, but it is far less common.
Will it work in my climate?
Yes. Bionizer systems operate in hot, cold and variable climates when sized correctly for the pool.
Do I need to change my filter?
Most filters work fine. We recommend changing your filter medium if it is more than 5 years old and make sure your cartridge is in good condition if you have a cartridge filter.
If the pool has a sand filter where the sand has not been changed for more than 5 years, we recommend to replace the sand with Pool Pro uncharged Glass Media as part of the installation.
