Upgrading Eco-Oxidizer to Eco-Oxidizer PRO
Upgrading an original Bionizer Eco-Oxidizer to the all-new Eco-Oxidizer Pro involves two separate stages:
- Upgrade the plumbing.
- Upgrade the control box
We recommend that you upgrade the plumbing first so that the glue can set while you are upgrading the control box.
UPGRADING THE PLUMBING
The Eco-Oxidizer Pro must be installed on a horizontal section of pipe in the return to pool line.
These instructions detail upgrading an Eco-Oxidizer Pod that is fitted to a horizontal section of pipe to an
Eco-Oxidizer Pro.
If your existing Eco-Oxidizer pod is fitted to a vertical section of pipe, then it may be left in place and its ring
terminals simply disconnected.
Always use PVC Primer on both surfaces before glueing any PVC parts.
- Disconnect the terminals from the existing Eco-Oxidizer Pod.
2. Unscrew the two barrel unions and remove the existing Eco-Oxidizer Pod.
3. A little planning will be required before beginning this step.
After cutting out the existing barrel unions, the gap in the pipe will be too large for fitting the Eco-Oxidizer Pro unions. A PVC joiner and a short length of pipe of the same diameter will be required to finish up with the correct spacing for fitting the Eco-Oxidizer Pro unions.
The diagram below shows the elements for which you need to allow when cutting out the existing Eco-Oxidizer unions.
Cut out the barrel unions with a fine tooth saw. Be sure to make the cuts square.
UPGRADING THE PLUMBING
4. Slide the Eco-Oxidizer Pro barrel union nuts onto the pipe. Ensure that the threads are facing the correct way, so that the nuts can be screwed onto the cell housing at the last stage of installation.
5. Glue the Eco-Oxidizer Pro barrel union halves onto the pipe. For 40mm (1.5″) pipe, glue 50x40mm bushes into the unions first. Do not lose the O-rings from the unions, and ensure that they are in place before fitting the Eco-Oxidizer Pro in place.
6. Fit the Eco-Oxidizer Pro into place and secure the barrel union nuts. Hand tighten only – do not use a tool.
Ensure that the arrows on the cell housing are pointing in the direction of the water flow.
POWER CONNECTION
1. Disconnect the 12V DC power cables from the Eco-Oxidizer and Bionizer units. If you have a pH BOSS that uses the same 12V DC cable, keep it in a safe place as a spare. Remove the Eco-Oxidizer unit.
2. Fit the Eco-Oxidizer Pro power supply in a location near the Bionizer so that the 240V power cable can reach the Bionizer auxilliary power outlet, and the DC output cable can reach the Eco-Oxidizer Pro without straining.
If you have a 240V powered pH BOSS, then plug the Eco-Oxidizer Pro into its piggy-pack power connector, as shown.
